SPECIAL NOTE: Since David Davies passed away on November 11th, I have had many e-mails and photos sent to me from fellow fliers, expressing their feelings regarding David's passing! This is indeed a great loss for the kiting community. There have been inquiries as to how many of David's hand made kites are still available. I will be producing another webpage with photos of David's kites that are still available. Please note that once these ORIGINAL Inter Active Kites are gone they are gone forever! Look for this new page to be up and running soon! Thank you to all of David's friends and fellow Skydancer pilots, who have purchased David's kites over the years! Please feel free to visit a special Tribute Page... Remembering David Davies Con Engels of Windstar Kites was the sole United States importer of this truly fabulous kite, and now Con Engels is the sole Kite Maker of the Skydancer quad line kite! The Skydancer is a variable geometry quad-line kite. The aero-elastic tailoring engineered into the Skydancer allows the kite to adopt the optimum aerodynamic form for the combination of both wind and kite speed. At speed, the kite's wings sweep back, resulting in a deep stable form, lightning acceleration and dead-straight tracking. At low relative air speeds, the wings sweep forward and the kite adopts a less stable, shallow or flat form. This gives the pilot maximum precision of control in all directions and allows breath taking propeller spins. EACH SKYDANCER was previously HAND MADE BY David Davies of Inter Active Kites. Now Con Engels of Windstar Kites solely produces the Skydancer quad line kite. For more information about the Skydancer Check out the "History of the Skydancer quad line kite" |

"History of The Skydancer quad line kite" (as noted by Con Engels of Windstar Kites): David Davies first started making kites in the early 1990s, and within a few short years he produced what eventually came to be known as the Skydancer. He had been making the Skydancers and other Skydancer shaped quad line kites for quite a while, and in January of 1997 David and his son Howard made the trip to the KTAI Trade Show in Clearwater Beach Florida. The Skydancer was met with much enthusiasm. That spring of 1997 I called David Davies and made arrangements to start importing the Skydancers into the US. After a brief time David Davies decided that I had so much interest in his kites that he made me his sole US importer for the Skydancer. Several times after our first meeting David made the trip from England to the US to promote the Skydancer and his other Skydancer related quad line kites. David visited the KTAI in Clearwater once again and also attended AKA Conventions in 1997, 1998 and 2000. Then 2003 I made the trip the UK to visit David and his wife Sue. During my trip over the pond David and I went to some of the UK's finest kite festivals, and I got to see all of David's wonderful variations of his Skydancer quad line kite (over 30 different variations of the Skydancer).
For 12 years I had the pleasure of having David Davies as my business associate, my mentor, and most of all my friend. In September of 2008, while David was in ill health, he asked me if I would want to continue on with his work. To which I replied that I would be honored to do so. Sadly, on November 11th, 2008 David passed away. Since David's passing, his wife Sue and son Howard have confirmed David's wishes and granted me permission to carry on with David's work and indeed his passion for making kites. During the 2009 year I have sold most of the few remaining ORIGINAL kites that were made by David himself, and David's wife Sue then sent me the templates for David's kites. So the Skydancer and Skydancer related kites will continue to be made here in the US, and HAND MADE by me (Con Engels). This very much indeed is a great honor that has been bestowed upon me, and I and very much treasure the opportunity to continue on with David's legacy! David Davies' AWARDS for Kite Making .While David was very modest about his kite making and really was into the kite making competition he did enter one his Skydancer SkyHawk into the Multiline Figure kite at The 1997 Kitemakers Competition in Wildwood, NJ. David took 3rd Place in the Multiline Figure kite category! Then most recently at the 2009 AKA Convention in Rochester, MN, on behalf of David Davies and myself, I entered David's Skydancer Enigma in the Cooperative kite making category for Sky Display, and David's Enigma took 1st Place in Cooperative! I also entered the new Skydancer "Mijet" ¾ size Skydancer in the Sport kite Category that the "Mijet" took 3rd Place. The "Mijet" is taken from David's Enigma sail cut and scaled down to ¾ size. All of these accomplishments are by David, as it is HIS body of work, and design expertise that made it possible. I am only happy to be a part in the continuation of David Davies kiting legacy. Please Note: The Skydancer quad line kite is Trademarked by David Davies and the Davies Family, along with David's Trademarked unique signature curved shaped quad line kite ..."Skydancer quad line kite". Any use of these images is not permitted without consent of Windstar Kites and InterActive Kites. CHOOSING A REVOLUTION?... |
Please NOTE: The wind and skill ratings you see above are from the company "Revolution" itself, who makes the Revolution line of kites!
For the beginner who has never flown a Revolution, or and least some other type of quad line kite, the EXP or SLE would be your best bet. Both of these kites have similar flight characteristics, and both are capable of advanced flight maneuvers. EXP has a 3 wrap standard leading edge and the sail is Nylon. Smaller overall wind range than SLE, and less expensive. The main disadvantage to the EXP is that, it is not suited for light wind or zero wind flying. If you plan on learning to zero wind fly at a later time, the SLE would be lighter in overall weight (with the additional purchase of light weight leading edge rods). |
The SLE (now known as simply as the Rev 1.5) has better handling characteristics than the EXP, because of it's stiffer SLE (Super Leading Edge), and also has a wider overall wind range, and for light wind or zero wind flying, and the Rev1.5 also comes with the smaller diameter (lighter weight) leading edge. This will lighten the weight of the kite sufficiently to allow for light wind or zero wind flying. The SLE is a very controllable stable kite which has highly advanced flight capabilities. The SLE is also the choice kite of many competitive quad line fliers! |
The Revolution B-Series (Barresi Signature Series) is the ideal choice for any hard core precision or competition flier... After 17 years of competition and nine national quad line championships, John Barresi has utilized a number of modifications and features which make this a true high performance package.
The sail is paneled with two specific goals in mind... 1. The grey panels are replaced with screen for the vented model, keeping your vented and standard kites aesthetically similar. To keep you competitive, the B-Series comes with two frames... One 2-wrap (SUL) and one 3-wrap (UL), giving you the versatility of being able to switch your frames based on the current wind, and you can also slide your SUL leading edge rods in parallel with the UL leading edge when the wind is up, effectively doubling your leading edge strength. The B-Series is also the choice kite of most competitive quad line fliers! If you want the best overall kite in the Revolution brand, this is your best choice! The B-Series is also available in a vented (aka FULL Vent), or a Mid-Vent, for those high wind days! |
Rev I... The original Revolution... the one that started it all. A full 9' wingspan. This kite has a combination of grace and total controlability. The Rev I is also the easiest of all of the Revs to learn on, as is flies slower, and is more graceful than all other Revolution models. |
Revoultion B-Sereis Zen, is the ultimate low wind Revolution |
The SUPERSONIC is the fastest of the Revs, therefore would not be appropriate for beginners, because it would be too quick for most beginners to respond and react to it's flight characteristics. For the somewhat experienced Rev flier, the Supersonic may be the kite for you. Very challenging to fly, the Supersonic is extremely fast in higher winds. Yes you can control the speed of the supersonic, but this kite does not want to be tamed! |
You can learn to fly on the SHOCKWAVE, but it is faster than the SLE or EXP, and therefore harder for a beginner to learn. This kite is a good compromise between the total controllability of the SLE and the speed of the Supersonic. It is like a cross between the two. |
The BLAST was the largest wingspan Revolution until early 2003. This kite is not for the faint of heart. It is pure power and adrenaline wrapped up in the shape of a Revolution. Geared towards Rev fliers who also wish to get a taste of pure power. In moderate winds the Blast can generate lots of power. In higher winds, look out! Although rated for intermediate to advanced, this kite is more suited to the fliers with advanced skills, especially when flying in moderate to high winds. |
The SUPER BLAST(aka PowerBlast 2-4) is now the largest wingspan and most powerful Revolution to date. This kite is for experienced fliers only! It is pure power and adrenaline wrapped up in the shape of a Revolution. Geared towards Rev fliers who also wish to get a taste of pure power. In light winds it is the ultimate precision quad kite... able to do amazing inverted slides in the hands of the experienced flier, and in moderate winds look out, as the Super Blast can generate tons of power. NOT recommended for high wind flying unless you are an expert flier, and are ready to traction fly with the Super Blast. This kite is suited to the fliers with advanced skills, especially when flying in moderate to high winds. |
POWER BLAST 4-8... EXTREME Power, and ultimate light wind flying ability. FOR EXPERIENCED fliers only! Power Blast |
