Most people (fliers and spectators alike) do not realize that different types of flying lines are NOT capable with one another. Please pay particular attention when flying Sport Kites around single line kites. Make certain so that your flying line does not come in contact with single line kite lines (Dacron or even cotton line from inexpensive kids kites). For more info on this please see the "Kite Safety Field Card".

Sport kite flying (also known as stunt kite flying) has come a long way in the past twenty some years since the first of the modern day designs emerged. Of course, there was the Garber target kite, first used in US military way back when! Before most of us were born.
Then in the '70's came the start of the revolution with Peter Powell's diamond shaped refinement of the Garber using plastic then ripstop nylon for sail material, and fiberglass rods for the frame. And we must not forget Andrew Jones and Ray Merry who started up that Flexifoil thing in the early '70's! This is just a little teaser to the history of stunt, sport, and power kites. We'll talk more about kite history in a forthcoming page dedicated to this subject. There are multitudes of sport kites available today, and Windstar Kites is striving to bring the best of these to you. Check back often to see the latest additions of not only sport kites, but also single line, power kites, show kites, and all the accessories to go with them. |
