The Skydancer "Mijet" with Air-Bag ""specifications
are:
Frame: 4mm solid custom carbon rods(throughout the kite), 4 piece Leading Edge & 2 Longerons (verticals) Fittings: APA & custom Sail: Nylon ---Full Black Sail with Special Edition Appliques Weight: 5.8 ounces (4.6 ounces with optional S.U.L. frame, for zero & light wind flying) Wind Range: Skydancer "Mijet" with Standard Frame... Wind Range: 4 to 18 mph (very conservative wind rating) with skill it can be flown in zero wind on short lines, and can be flown above it's 18 mph top end. I personally have flown a Skydancer with standard frame set on 75' 80# line set down to 3 mph, and have flown the Skydancer "Mijet" in winds as high as 25 mph. In winds above 20 mph, it becomes very challenging to fly the Skydancer "Mijet", as the speed of the kite is very fast, and beginners will find it very diffucult to control in high winds.
Wind Range: Skydancer with (optional) SUL Frame... Wind Range: 0 to 10 mph (very conservative wind rating) with skill it can be Wingspan: 75" static & 42" swept (under full power at top speed) "Mijet Air-Bag" "": The "Mijet" kite bag (sleeve) is designed to serve two purposes. 1) to store your new kite, and 2) as an air brake! There are two clips (swivels) on each end of the bag. Simply attach each end to the tail attachment points on the "Mijet" (located directly beside the vertical rod pockets) and "Walla" you have an "Mijet Air-Bag" (air-brake). The "Air-Bag" is not in case you are in an accident but to be use for high wind flying :-) Skydancer Mijet: Note: Need a Ground Stake... Just $16.00 Additional!

"History of The Skydancer quad line kite"(as noted by Con Engels of Windstar Kites): David Davies first started making kites in the early 1990s, and within a few short years he produced what eventually came to be known as the Skydancer. He had been making the Skydancers and other Skydancer shaped quad line kites for quite a while, and in January of 1997 David and his son Howard made the trip to the KTAI Trade Show in Clearwater Beach Florida. The Skydancer was met with much enthusiasm. That spring of 1997 I called David Davies and made arrangements to start importing the Skydancers into the US. After a brief time David Davies decided that I had so much interest in his kites that he made me his sole US importer for the Skydancer. Several times after our first meeting David made the trip from England to the US to promote the Skydancer and his other Skydancer related quad line kites. David visited the KTAI in Clearwater once again and also attended AKA Conventions in 1997, 1998 and 2000. Then in 2003 I made the trip the UK to visit David and his wife Sue. During my trip over the pond David and I went to some of the UK's finest kite festivals, and I got to see all of David's wonderful variations of his Skydancer quad line kite (over 30 different variations of the Skydancer).
For 12 years I had the pleasure of having David Davies as my business associate, my mentor, and most of all my friend. In September of 2008, while David was in ill health, he asked me if I would want to continue on with his work. To which I replied that I would be honored to do so. Sadly, on November 11th, 2008 David passed away. Since David's passing, his wife Sue and son Howard have confirmed David's wishes and granted me permission to carry on with David's work and indeed his passion for making kites. During the 2009 year I have sold most of the few remaining ORIGINAL kites that were made by David himself, and David's wife Sue then sent me the templates for David's kites. So the Skydancer and Skydancer related kites will continue to be made here in the US, and HAND MADE by me (Con Engels). This very much indeed is a great honor that has been bestowed upon me, and I and very much treasure the opportunity to continue on with David's legacy! David Davies' AWARDS for Kite Making .While David was very modest about his kite making and really was not interested in the kite making competitions he did enter one of his Skydancer SkyHawks in the Multiline Figure kite at The 1997 Kitemakers Competition in Wildwood, NJ. David took 3rd Place in the Multiline Figure kite category (1997)! Then most recently at the 2009 AKA Convention in Rochester, MN, on behalf of David Davies and myself, I entered David's Skydancer Enigma in the Cooperative kite making category for Sky Display, and David's Enigma took 1st Place in Cooperative (2009)! It was a great honor to acceopt this award on behalf of my friend David! I also entered the new Skydancer "Mijet" ¾ size Skydancer in the Sport kite Category that the "Mijet" took 3rd Place (2009). The "Mijet" is David's Enigma sail cut and scaled down to ¾ size. All of these accomplishments are by David, as it is HIS body of work, and design expertise that made it possible. I am only happy to be a part in the continuation of David Davies' kiting legacy.

The "Sky Enigma's" graphics where designed by Dr. Mike Armstrong from Cheshire, UK.
Skydancer "Enigma" takes 1st Place at 2009 AKA Nationals, in Rochester, MN! In tribute the David Davies, I entered the Skydancer "Enigma" in the Cooperative Kite Making category, which I had framed and made the tails for and David had sewn the sail. The Skydancer "Enigma" took 1st Place!!!! This particular kite was the first Enigma that David made for the US, and is my personally owned kite. I know that David is looking down on me, and smiling! David certainly deserves the recognition for his kite making abilities, and I am very happy that he finally received this great award! When receiving the 1st Place Award, I asked Steve Ferrel if I could say a few words... "I thank my Dad who helped me get started in the kite business, my Grandfather "Pap" for getting me started kite flying when a young boy, David Davies for his wonderful flying creations... this is for you David, and most of all my Mom who supports me all the way!" |
Other custom kites the were previously made by David Davies...
