Production versions are now here!!!!
(limited custom prototype versions also available- see below)
A poll was taken over a one month period, for flier's choice of design and color of the
Inter Active Kites "Fijet". The final results of the poll are as follows:
Because almost one third of the fliers liked the Standard design,
Windstar Kites & Inter Active Kites has decided to offer
both designs, in the Flier's Choice colors above.
Formerly, the Fijet and the Hummer were actually two slightly different kites.
The designs have been optimized to gain the highest possible performance
of the two separate sail configurations. Over six months of
development and testing went into the current designs.

The winner of the Fijet drawing was John Schell, from Erie PA. Congratulations John, I'm quite sure you will totally enjoy the thrill that Fijet will give you.
A very special thank you, goes out to all that participated in the Fijet poll and drawing. The above final design color combinations are the result of your direct participation our poll. Thank you once again!!! |
The "Fijet Cool Hummer" prototype has been seen flying over the skies of Western PA and is truly a beautiful piece of flying art. The production version is being produced with a Icarex sail and priced at $199.00. The Fijet Hummer comes with a kite bag that doubles as a tail and air brake, for those high wind days. The tail can also be used to slow the kite down in lower and moderate winds as a training aid for beginners. |
About the "Fijet"
The "Fijet" is the little brother to Inter Active Kites "Skydancer". A perfect balance a function, form, beauty and grace, the Fijet is a very diverse kite. It is capable of flying in very light winds on 75' line. The kite is designed in such a way that the curved leading edge is flexible. Just as a bird sweeps it's wings back in a dive, the Fijet changes the shape of it's wings as it flies. In higher winds the Fijet comes into it's own, as it has incredible speed and agility. The Fijet is aimed towards the experienced quad line flier, but with a little time, practice and patience even the beginner quad line flyer can learn the ropes on this little speed demon. In high winds it is certainly not a kite for the faint of heart, as it's speed can be outrageous in higher winds. The speed however, can be fully controlled with very slight hand movement, that takes a bit of time for the beginner to intermediate flier. Tails can be added to the Fijet to slow it's speed down, and make it more manageable to fly. The addition of tails also adds to the beauty of the kites performance. Previously using a fiberglass leading edge and formerly rated for a wind rating of 8 - 25 MPH, the Fijet has now been fitted with an all carbon frame and now can be flown in zero wind on short lines. The "Fijet" specifications are: Frame: 4.5mm solid custom carbon (leading edge) and .1960 Avia pultruded tube (control longerons) Fittings: APA & custom Sail: Carrington Nylon (w/"Toray Rainbow" fabric in the Fijet LE) Sail Area: approx. 6.25 square feet (both the production version and previous custom prototypes have approximately the same sail area, although the production version has a lower aspect ratio. Weight: 5.75 ounces (Standard Nylon), 5.3 ounces Hummer (Toray Polyester version) Wingspan: 72" static (for production version) & 48" swept (under full power at top speed) Wind Range: on 75#/75' lines: 2 - 25 mph (very conservative wind rating) Wind Range: on 15' or 25' lines: Zero to ??? Fijet "Standard" design (Blue, Neon Green), price: $99.00 (kite only) Fijet "Rainbow LE" design (Purple, Neon Red), price: $119.00 (kite only) Fijet "Hot and Cool "Hummer" color combo, price: $199.00 (kite only)
Limited time offer on prototype Fijet color combinations (see below) Please note: Inter Active Kites is constantly striving for improvements in design and performance, and reserves the right to alter any and all designs in production, for the betterment of the product.
OTHER tidbits and info about the Fijet & Hummer... Early versions of the Fijet, Hummer & Prototypes: The reason why the prototype had a wider wingspan is that originally the Fijet and the Hummer were two slightly different kites. Flight tests were made to optimize sail configuration of the two design into a single sculpted sail without losing performance. Because the final design has a built in billow in the sail, the kite now has a lower wind range than it's original version (of both Fijet & Hummer). This newer sail configuration also has enhanced the Fijet's dead launch capabilities. Dead Launch Capabilities: Given the right ground surface & wind conditions both the Hummer and Fijet can be dead launched. Just as with dual line kites that have dead nose launch capabilities, it is not always possible to dead launch. When the Fijet (Hummer included) is stacked, it is actually easier to dead launch because the trailing kites behind the lead kite actually help hold the bottom (trailing edge) of the lead kite down while allowing the leading edge to be lifted. The Domino Launch maneuver was filmed with the lead kite standing, but this can be done with the lead kite laying down. How to Dead Launch a Fijet or Hummer: Quad line dead launch with the Fijet is done by placing both handles in one hand (right below waist height) with that hand held outward, then take your other hand and grab the top lines and pull sharply upward towards your chest while extending your other hand downward and away from you body. Take a step or two back (depending on wind conditions), quickly grip handles with both hands, proceed with normal quad launch technique to continue flight. The main advantage to the production Fijet & Hummer is that it has a slightly lower wind range (but in the hands of an experienced flier, this is not a key factor, as most have the skill to push the Prototype for lighter & zero wind). The production kites are also made in a more economic fashion, as less material is wasted in production, hence a better price can be offered. See photos, of the custom prototypes listed below, and of the first prototype test flights in the US.

In full participation and co-operation with David Davies, of Inter Active Kites, I have worked with David on the graphic design aspect of the Fijet, along with it's new lighter carbon frame set. I am very excited about this addition to the Inter Active family of kites that Windstar Kites offers. Con Engels (owner of Windstar Kites) |

"Hummer"
(click "Hummer" to see photo)
Meet "Hummer", the custom made Fijet hummingbird. In the Hummer's true element of wind above 12 mph, it is shear fun to fly! But, you better watch out, because once the wind reaches 20 mph and above, the Hummer earns it's name!
See above for details, and pricing of the production version of the "Hummer"!!!!!!!!!
The Fijet's first indoor flight!
In the hands of an experienced indoor quad flier, the Fijet was able
to perform 360's, up & overs, and 3-D flying with no problem!
