Sam helping to launch Frank Seidita's Mega Frog
(All photos on this page taken by Cheryl Kear. Great job Cheryl!)
It all started innocently enough, on Saturday July 28, 2001 when Frank Seidita and Con Engels decided to get out a couple of larger Jim Rowlands LeFrogs. The wind had smoothed out to a very nice steady 9 - 10 mph NE wind, and they figured conditions where good enough to pull out some frogs to play. The first to come swimming out of it's bag was a 17' Special Edition "Red" LeFrog, followed by Frank's 21 footer, and Con's 21' large frog. Soon they were joined by 2 of the smaller green 8 foot LeFrogs, one each from Frank & Con. As the frogs were multiplying Con assisted in helping produce yet another 8 footer, this time a Red one. The sight was something to behold. Comments were coming from Lee Sedgwick's end of the beach, as to how great things looked "down on the pond". We were all having a ball. Of course Frank & Con could not handle all the action that the frogs were producing, as the frogs were trying to mate with one another. Soon we thought that at any minute there would be tadpoles floating about in our sea of air, and flying around the sky with swimming delight. However we were able to contain the frogs' excitement by recruiting fellow members of Fly Pittsburgh. Also on hand were Barb Seidita, Tom & Cheryl Kear, Joanne Kern, and Bill Dankmyer assisting in the flight on the pond. Just too much fun was to be had, so then the BIG BOY came out to play. With the help of Sam Ritter and several others including Ryan & Patrick McAlister, Frank was able to get his MEGA Frog to join in. Sam made a great kite anchor for the tremendously huge 45' long Mega Frog. Once launched Sam was flying the Mega Frog straight from it's bridle lines, and even controlled it's side to side motions by playing the bridle like a true sport kite flyer. Because of the close proximity of the area, and with other fliers and spectators very close to the pond, the froggys were kept on a short leash. They all had a wonderful time for about an hour's time and the crowd loved the scene. The LeFrog family can not wait until they come together at their next family reunion.
Below are some scenes from the great DPI "Mega Frog Fly"...
