Special Thanks to Chuck,
for the photos on this page!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: It is not advisable to go out on the ice by yourself.
Make sure that you always have someone with you when venturing out on ice.
All Ice Kiters MUST ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GEAR (Helmet, Pads, etc.)
In the winter our local Power Kiters do not bother for the most part with snow covered fields. Rather than that, the best alternative is Ice Kiting. Some of our club members go out to Moraine State Park and ski on Lake Arthur, or we go up to Lake Erie & ski on the bay. If there is no snow on the ice, and the ice is smooth BLACK ICE, then we must have really sharp edges on our skis, and many use very short skis, to concentrate more weight on a smaller edge. Snow boarding would not be advisable on Black Ice because the board can not catch an edge very well. If there is snow on the Ice, then snow boarding would be a good alternative to skis.
